Chinese tycoon seeks to buy tract of Iceland for 100 millions

The Chinese billionaire would like to buy a vast tract of Icelandic land to build a resort there.  Critics claim that the deal would allow Beijing to claim its right for the Arctic, notes the Financial Times.

According to the edition, Chinese tycoon Huang Nubo is going to buy 0.3% of the territory of Iceland and is ready to pay about $100m. Iceland is in a difficult financial situation at the moment and the official Reykjavik started the negotiations eagerly at fist. However, it is more reserved now and is studying the terms of the deal. Experts of the Financial Times do not exclude that the official Beijing may be behind the tycoon’s private initiative.
