Warsaw's Legia has signed a new contract with 18-year-old midfielder Erik Mikanovich, a graduate of the Legia Academy, running until the end of the 2029/30 season, the club has announced.
Mikanovich plays as a wide midfielder. He began his football journey in Hrodna. He joined the Legia system at the age of 14, entering the Legia Academy in August 2023. With the U19 team, he became Polish champion three times and helped the club reach the round of 16 in the UEFA Youth League.
Since the start of the new season, Mikanovich has been regularly training with the first team and took part in the pre-season camp in Germany. He also represents the Belarus youth national team, having played 14 matches and scored three goals.
Legia sporting director Fredi Bobic described Mikanovich as an important player from the club's future perspective.
"He was with us at the summer camp and performed very well. Coach Marek Papszun holds him in high regard," Bobic noted.
According to him, the midfielder will train primarily with the first team but will also get playing time with the reserve side.
Bobic added that Mikanovich has great pace and good dribbling, though he still has a lot of work to do on himself. The sporting director expressed hope that the player will gain experience over time and become a valuable asset for the club.
