20.50. The meeting is over. The present have been asked to approach the chapel in memory of victims of Chernobyl disaster to lay flowers and light candles.

Participants of the action have adopted a resolution of “Chernobyl Way”. There are three points in it: Release political prisoners! No NPP construction! Free elections!

20.37. Euroradio has found out that the detention occurred near the McDonalds in Bangalore Square. About 12 or 15 people have been pushed in two police buses.

20.28. Chairperson of the steering committee of “Chernobyl Way” Yury Hadyka and activist of the ecological movement Tatstsyana Novikava have already made their speeches.  A minute’s silence has taken place.

20.20. The meeting is starting. The Chernobyl bell is being rung in the Park of Friendship of Peoples. Unconfirmed information about a detained group of Moscow members of the youth affiliate of “Apple” noticed in the column with their flags has appeared. It is informed that they were detained and pushed into police buses. Euroradio is checking this information.

20.10. Policemen do not want to let two activists with loudspeakers enter the meeting place, said Victar Ivashkevich to Euroradio. However, at least one loudspeaker has been brought there – it is on the stage.

Zmitser Kaspyarovich tried to bring the transparency “No NPP” to the venue, but policemen took it away from him and threw it away, informs Nasha Niva.

20.05. All demonstrators are in the Park of Friendship of Peoples. There are at least 1000 participants.

19.52. The meeting place in the Park of Friendship of Peoples is surrounded by turnstiles. Metal finders are installed there. Special forces are waiting for demonstrators. But the column is being late.

18.32. The column is heading for Surhanau Street. There are about 1000 people in it. Members of “Tell the Truth” have put down their flags and transparencies. They have claimed that they will not take part in the organized manifestation towards Bangalore Square. However, those who want to do it can continue.

18.16. About 300 people have gathered there. Activists of the BPF Party, BCD, “European Belarus” and a number of other parties and organizations are among them, reports Zmitser Lukashuk.

About 100 or 150 people have already arrived there. Mikola Dzemidzenka, Vital Rymasheuski, Zmitser and Volha Bandarenka, Henadz Buraukin and Victar Karnyaenka are among them.

17.10. People distributing information about Chernobyl detained in Brest

Coordinator of Brest affiliate of the civil campaign “Tell the Truth” Ihar Maslouski has informed about it.

Ihar Maslouski: "Activists of “Tell the Truth” Marat Nestsyarenka and Ales Ahmach have been detained. They were distributing information about the 26th anniversary of Chernobyl disaster according to their constitutional rights. They were pasting leaflets with the inscription “Astravets is one step away from Chernobyl” in the centre of the city.

According to Ihar Maslouski, the activists are in Brest Lenin District Court now.

16.21. Asipovichy activist Ihar Simbirou detained in Minsk

He arrived from Asipovichy to take part in Chernobyl Way. As soon as Simbirou got off his electric train, he was attacked by people in plain closes who wrung his hands and dragged him to their car.

He was accused of swearing. October District Court has jailed Simbirou for 10 days.

11:47. Anatol Lyabedzka: It was easier to get to Warsaw than to Astravets

Leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka commented on their trip to Astravets.

The UCP members are in Astravets with a visit today. They want to talk to the local inhabitants about the NPP construction. They have been stopped twice on their way - in Smarhon district and near Ashmyany:

Lyabedzka: "It wasn't just us who got prepared for this trip - the KGB and the police also prepared. They have stopped us twice already. First - near Kreva. There is no doubt that they were waiting for us as they left everything they were doing and ran to their car, jumped in and followed us on the road with alarms".

However, the opposition members plan to return to Minsk tonight to take part in the Chernobyl Way action. Also, activist from Astravets Mikalaj Ulasevich, who stands against construction of the NPP, is going to hold a speech at the action.

Let us remind you, Chernobyl Way action will take place in Minsk today. The "Young Front" activists have already declared that they will come to the Academy of Sciences.

The action has been sanctioned by the authorities of Minsk. Participants will gather at the headquarters of the Academy of Sciences. The rally starts from there at 18.30 along Surhanau Street to the Peoples' Friendship Park. A mournful manifestation will take place there at 19.30. 

It is expected that this year's action will be majorly aimed against building of an NPP near Astravets.
