Banks: People sell 10 times more currency than buy
Also, the dollar rate has decreased by Br 1thousand in some currency exchange offices for the last 4 days.
Euroradio's journalist stood in queues in some
currency exchange offices in Minsk to find out whether people buy and sell a
lot of foreign currency.
Belagroprombank's currency exchange office - there's only one lady in a queue
before me. She sells 200 USD and 50 Euros. They purchase dollar for the price
of Br 8 000 here today.
Euroradio: Tell me please, do people
purchase or sell dollars more at the moment?
Belagroprombank: Mostly sell. Almost no
one buy dollars now.
The dollar's rate in the Belarusbank's currency exchange office, located at the
railway station, makes Br 7 900 today. People also mostly sell currency here.
The queue is not long - about six people, who sell both dollars and Russian
roubles.
“In our exchange office people
sell currency rather than buy, - says the cashier of the
Absolutbank, – at present moment, the balance
is approximately 10 to 1”.
It is interesting that the banks do not buy dollars for currency exchange
offices at the stock market. People bring enough, - say representatives of one
of the commercial banks.
“We are okay with what people
sell. We do not purchase currency ourselves so far”.
People sell currency to the exchange offices and the rate naturally goes down.
Euroradio has watched changes of the dollar rate within this week in one
currency exchange office - BBMB Bank. This very bank established the highest
dollar rate - Br 8 900 (!) - on September 14. The rate decreased by a whole
thousand roubles for less than a week! Today, they take Br 7 900 per dollar in
this exchange office.

Dollar rate in the "Moscow-Minsk" bank:
According to the National Bank's information, on September 14 the banks bought 3,2 million dollars from the population, and sold 1,4 million dollars... On that very day the banks bought 400 thousand Euros, and sold 150... Also, the banks bought 31,7 million Russian roubles from the population, and sold 7,4 million.
The next day, on September 15, people sold 14,2 million dollars to the banks
and purchased only 3,5 million. Four times less...
Let us remind you, the dollar rate has reached the level of Br 8 460 at the additional session of the Belarusian currency stock exchange on September 19. It has decreased by 20 roubles since the last time.
