Ales Mikhalevich detained in New York airport
He was detained by the U.S. immigration services.
Mikhalevich arrived to New York from
Warsaw by bus on September 25. The aim of his visit was participation in the
work of the UNO General Assembly Human Rights Committee, informs "Charter'97".
The representatives
of the U.S. immigration services referred to the fact that Mikhalevich's name
was in the list of the U.S. Department of Justice. Euroradio reminds, the
Belarusian KGB issued an order for Mikhalevich's arrest. Therefore he has
problems when crossing the borders of different countries from time to time.
For example, last year Mikhalevich was detained at the attempt to take a plane
in Warsaw airport. Poland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski had
to interfere in the situation to release Mikhalevich.
