Rational politicians share their irrational feelings

Belarusian politicians believe in dreams and horoscopes, God and angels, fine energies and agricultural calendars. Some even possess paranormal abilities, the European Radio for Belarus has learned.

Popular Front leader Lyavon Barscheuski mentioned in one of his interviews that he believed in 70 percent of horoscope forecasts. The European Radio for Belarus explores what signs and omens other VIPs of the Belarusian politics believe in.

Siarhei Haidukevich, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party, told ERB that he studied very well. He studied hydrogen theory in the quant mechanics and knows Einstein’s relativity theory very well. At the same time, he admits that he reads horoscopes and pays attention to dreams and possesses paranormal abilities.

“I think that all signs deal with the theory of relativity, when a black cat runs in front and something happens. There is something symbolic in this, but I believe in more serious things. For instance, when I wake up in the morning and my relatives call me or some events put me on alarm, I believe in this sign and try to orient myself. As for horoscopes, people should have a calm attitude towards them I read Virgin’s horoscopes, because I am a Virgin. Is it bad? People should be interested in horoscopes and forecasts. I will open you a secret. You can ask any party member that when I put a spoon to my forehead, it is hard to remove it from there”.

At the same time, the politician has revealed that he is a true believer and believes in the immortality of soul and guarding angels.

United Civic Party leader Anatol Lyabedzka says that he was brought up as a God believer. He does not believe in signs and omens.  He does not have a happy jacket to wear at a public rally, either.

“I believe in myself and my colleagues. I never spit over the left or right shoulder. I don’t pay attention to it. Otherwise, if you start paying attention to omens, you will be thinking about it only. I have many other things to think about”.

Young politician Volha Kazulina believes in dreams and “global” signs.

Volha Kazulina: “I pay attention to global moments only. When I have a dream, I will check this dream out, because I have a very good intuition. I regard it as a life sign. This helps me sort out my life situations. I also believe in horoscopes”.

At the same time, she doesn’t believe in daily horoscopes. Instead, Volha has a horoscope for the whole life. But the year when she becomes the president of Belarus is not mentioned there.

Volha Kazulina: “I am not going to become the president and thanks God! This is not my priority. But this horoscope has several points which overturn your life. In 2004, I passed one of those points. Now I am heading towards the next one”.

Mikola Statkevich, the coordinator of European Coalition, does not believe in black cats or horoscopes. Instead, he believes in fine energies, supreme forces and dreams.

Mikola Statkevich: “This is like a warning from your sub-consciousness. When you have a problem and you can’t resolve it, your sub-consciousness gives you a tip.  Think your problem over before sleeping and you will wake up with a solution. I use this method at times. As a rule, those decisions prove to be rather rational”.

MP Siarhei Kastsian, a Sagittarius, admitted that he was a horoscope fan in early 1990s. But his experience proved that horoscope forecasts were never in line with reality, so he dropped his hobby. He does not believe in black cats or old women with empty buckets, either. The only thing he trusts is the agricultural calendar.

“I have followed the agricultural calendars for 20 years and they have proved real”.

Communist Kastsian does not believe in God, because an ancient mathematician Ptolemaic was burnt for witchcraft by the order of the Christian church.

Thus, despite their rationalism, even politicians have a place in their souls for something irrational.
