Policemen stop anti-death penalty performance
A group of youth activists of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee made an attempt to conduct an anti-death penalty performance in Minsk at the crossroads of Winners Avenue and Nyamiha Street, near the Fashion House, on June 5.
Mimes in masks were going to remind passers-by that the death penalty still existed in our country and other participants of the action had to distribute information leaflets.
However, the performance hardly began when a policeman in plain clothes approached the participants and demanded to put off masks and stop the action: “I warn you about the responsibility for public order violation and of the law on mass actions in particular”. Activists tried to explain that “it was not a mass action” but an artistic act, howvere, it did not help.
