Peat still smouldering in Chernobyl

Peat is smouldering on the territory of about 9 hectares in Chernobyl. There are two hotbeds of fire. Ukrainian rescuers are trying to put them out day and night, mns.gov.ua reports.

The fire on 5.4 hectares of the alienation zone was put out yesterday. 102 people (including 77 rescuers) and 18 machines are involved on the operation in Chernobyl. The first fire started there at the end of April and it was put out. It was either arson or casual handling of fire.
