Pashkevich delivers petition to Radzkou but gets detained (photo+video)

Policemen created obstacles to journalists during a flash mob in the center of Minsk again.
Activists of the campaign “Tell the Truth!” have organized a flash mob dated for the International Youth Day today. The young people who gathered at the action wanted to deliver a petition urging to liquidate the Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Education to Minister Alyaksandr Radzkou. An activist of the campaign Mihas Pashkevich had claimed it before the action started.

Mihas Pashkevich: “In our opinion, and we have proved it, the Department has not been fulfilling its functions for five years. The BRUY can be called the Ministry of Youth Affairs now while the Department of the Ministry of Education is inactive at the moment. The budget testifies to it. Everything is explained in the documents we are going to deliver today. There are budget coefficients and analytics”.

Activists had been planning to show “The calendar of Belarusian youth’s life” to journalists and passers-by, but they did not manage to do it. Guys with portable radio transmitters wearing plain clothes approached the activists of the campaign standing not far from the Ministry before the action and wondered what they were doing there. Having detained no one, they communicated with the help of their transmitters. As soon as Pashkevich finished speaking, people in plain clothes approached him, took away “The calendar” and other posters and put them in their car.

They blocked journalists’ cameras with their hands and demanded to stop taking pictures and making videos of the events.

However, activists managed to enter the building of the Ministry of Education where a man who introduced himself as the Minister’s assistant met them. He accepted Pashkevich’s petition to Radzkou and promised to hand it over to the Minister.

Then the action finished. ERB asked Pashkevich what activists expected from the action and he confessed that he hoped the Minister would pay attention to the suggestions of the public.
Mihas Pashkevich: “We will see. In fact, our suggestion has nothing do to with the opposition. It urges the government and the Ministry of Education to save money and not to waste it on the Department of Youth Affairs that does not even have a normal staff in the country and is under the wing of the BRUY. However, it wants to create the Ministry of Youth Affairs”.

The action ended quite quickly and everyone left. Two people in plain clothes waited until Pashkeich remained alone, grabbed him and made him get in the car parked not far from the hotel “Minsk”. Journalists were not allowed to follow him.
