New Year’s forecasts for Belarus
Astrologist Pavel Globa says the year 2008 will be quiet and without surprises.
“All the years of the Rat are always stable and promise new hopes and always bring about victories of the conservatives. Rats live in holes, and they have a very explicit collective instinct. Those feeling blue will find it difficult in the next year, while the team of people sharing a common vision will always win. This will help flexible people possessing diplomatic qualities and who are able to change themselves when needed”.
Economist Aliaksandr Chubryk has his own vision of how our economy will develop in 2008.
“The government might possibly change laws that regulate privatization and simplify procedures for the operation of small-size businesses. I am not talking about any other fundamental things. I think that economy will slow down a little along with the growth of the population’s income. It is still far away from the next presidential elections”.
“The next year will be a difficult one for the population. Utilities tariffs will be raised. Social benefits have already been abolished. Inflation will grow slightly. However, we will make it somehow”.
Different from economist Chubryk, astrologist Globa forecasts a happy living for Belarusians, including the economic growth and the preservation of those at power.
“The vertical of power in Belarus will be strengthened. The country will also strengthen ties with other nations, especially Russia. There will be a certain economic rise. Frankly speaking, this will not be the time for changes in Belarus”.
Musician Liavon Volski also sees into the next year with hopes.
“I would like the current situation with the Belarusian music when artistes are banned from playing their concerts or touring across the country to change drastically. I want all the musicians to play and tour in equal conditions so that there would be a healthy competition in Belarus that every listener could find his or her own Belarusian music star. This is how it is going to be. I can’t be otherwise”.
Political commentator Uladizmir Matskevich points to several major issue that will be decisive for Belarus in 2008.
“I think that the following issues need to be resolved next year: Belarus’s joining the Council of Europe and meeting the twelve conditions of the European Union. The next issue is our relations with Russia. If this question is not sorted out in 2008, the situation will become significantly protracted. This will not foster development or stability and order in this country. It will be very difficult to tackles these questions, because the current regime in Belarus is very complex”.
