Mother of Aliaksandar Lukashenka’s personal physician died

Ludmila Pastayalka – the mother of Aliaksandar Lukashenka’s personal physician Iryna Abelskaya has died today. This information was confirmed by the Republican Council. She was considered to be one of the most influential people in the Belarusian political life and was close to the President of the country. She was born in Ukraine in 1941.

She graduated from Kiev Medical University. She worked as a head physician of the Brest Region Children’s Hospital before the presidential election of 2001. Afterwards she was made the deputy Minister of Health and a year later – the Minister of Health.

She resigned because of health problems in December 2005 and was assigned head of the Republican standing commission for demographic security and social development and also became the President’s adviser.

Pastayalka was the ideologist of reforming the system of public health service and assignment of students of medical institutions. She had oncological problems in recent times.
