Minskers threaten to boycott local election over housing project

A 19-level residential building with 133 apartments may appear behind the 'Tallinn' food supermarket in Kuntsauschyna metro station. However, the local inhabitants are ready to block their yard with their bodies in order not to let the bulldozers in, writes onliner.by. The Minskers have prepared an appeal to the authorities in which they ultimately urge the officials to listen to their demands. Otherwise, the whole block will boycott the upcoming election tot he local councils in spring.

The building is planned for the third time, the city authorities considered it unpractical twice. However, the company 'Microengineering' competes for the piece of land repeatedly. 130 parking places at the underground parking are prescribed for 133 apartments. A children's playground and a basketball ground are planned to be built above the parking. The project was presented on December 26 at school #151.

Meanwhile, the local inhabitants have collected more than 2 000 signatures against the construction and forwarded appeals to various institutions. According to them, the construction will provoke many problems: the receation zone will be demolished, while the social infrastructure is overloaded even without the site impaction.

The Minsk city council will decide whether to approve the project or not later. Meanwhile, the initiative group of the local inhabitants is studying the normative acts and waiting for the replies from the state authorities.
