Minsk city hall bans pickets in support of political prisoners in Belarus

The Minsk municipal authorities have rejected an application from the activists of the For Freedom movement to stage pickets within the next several days to express support to the Belarusian political prisoners.
The application was formally rejected on the grounds that the sites of the planned pickets were not available because of the preparations for the city's 940th-anniversary celebrations.

The activists from the For Freedom movement together with their friends from the Right Alliance, Malady Front and the Belarusian Christian Democracy filed several applications to stage pickets for the right to get education in the Belarusian language, to demand the release of political prisoners and the freedom of speech and to protest against the abolition of social benefits, reports the web site of Alexander Milinkevich.
