Milinkevich: We don't fear

“I want to say frankly that we do not lack optimism", said Alyaksandr Milinkevich, commenting on the developments on March 25-27 in Minsk when the government brutally broke up a peaceful Freedom Day demonstration and cracked down on independent media and across the country. “The aggression of the authorities creates hurdles in our work. But what is happening here now will help a great number of people in Belarus and in Western democracies. There is a big fight taking place, but it is not between us and the authorities; it is the fight for people", he said.

Milinkevich who leads the For Freedom Movement! stressed: “Today's actions of the government should be strongly condemned both by us and our partners and neighbors in the first place: Lithuania, Poland, and preferrably Ukraine. There are a lot of forces that want Belarus to lock itself up and repeat the experience of Cuba or North Korea. But this is impossible. We are in the center of Europe. Those who are aggressive are weak in fact. To me, these signs of aggression are indisputable signs of the beginning of the end of the dictatorship".

“We don't fear", Milinkevich told Radio Racyja.
