Mikalai Lazavik preparing respond to OSCE mission's report

The Central Election Commission of Belarus is now studying the OSCE/ODIHR report and preparing for a meeting with Hert Arens, the heand of OSCE election monitoring mission.  "I have looked it through and will read the report more attentively", Mikalai Lazavik, a high-ranking official at the Central Election Commission told the European Radio for Belarus.

At the same time, Mr Lazavik commented on some facts in the report, especially on the cases when vote count protocols were sent to local administrations instead of election commissions. Mikalai Lazavik maintains that observers "did not understand the Belarusian laws quite correctly":

"Under the Electoral Code, protocols are sent to an election commision and to the body which created this commission. Therefore, a copy of the protocol is also filed with the administration body. But it does not mean that it is not presented to the constituency election commission".

The Central Election Commission is now preparing for a meeting with Hert Arens, the head of OSCE?ODIHR election monitoring commission:

"We will have a meeting with Mr Arens and discuss all the controversial questions or different views on certain facts, so to say. We can have a serious conversation when there is a view point but there is no fact".

The report of the OSCE monitoring mission can be seen here.
