Maladzechna plant workers secure partial payouts

Workers of the Maladzechna Metal Hardware Plant started receiving salaries for April after they held a spontaneous strike at the plant on June 8. The protest took place just because of the delay payments. The next day on the Internet there was a video of the meeting of their meeting with representatives of the plant administration. The plant's management explained the problems were due to the decrease in plant production, payment of electricity loans and other payments.

Nevertheless, Deputy Director General for Commerce and Economic Affairs, Dzmitry Kupryianau, promised to pay out the salaries within a week, and he even said he would put on the table a letter of resignation, if workers are not paid in full.

In the evening of June 11, some 50% of workers received wages for April. According to one of the staff members who spoke with BelaPAN, Dzmitry Vakhovich, the money was paid to employees of the main production. Still, according to the agency's source, the salary has not yet been paid to the electricians, plumbers, cloakroom attendants and other employees.

On average, people were paid about 1 million 500 thousand rubles - that is half of the April salaries.

An employee of the plant suggested that if people do not get the money soon, there could be another strike on Monday.
