Malady Front to hand out awards instead of street action on Valentine's Day
The Czech Republic-based youth group Malady Front (Youth Front) has refused to organize a traditional street action on February 14, St. Valentine's Day. Instead, the young opposition members will hold I Love Belarus Awards. Malady Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich told the European Radio for Belarus that this year's decision is not something extraordinary.
Dashkevich: "Over 13 years of St. Valentine's Day celebrations by our organization, one in three street actions was not held. This year, we simply decided to focus on the first ever national I Love Belarus awards.
The prizes are planned to be handed out on February 14 at Crown Plaza, a posh hotel in Minsk. Invitations were sent out to over 300 guests, including journalists, diplomats, culture and arts figures from Belarus. Besides, On February 12 Malady Front members will take a walk to the embassies of EU member states to congratulate their staff with the upcoming festivities of love.
At the same time, Malady Front plans to stage several street actions in the framework of the New Generation youth coalition.
