Lukashenka does not want Veshnyakov to be head of CIS executive committee

The former head of the Central Election Commission of Russia Alexandr Veshnyakov has not been accepted as head of CIS executive committee at the summit in Saint Petersburg. The “Vedomosti” newspaper informs that he was not endorsed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka. The term of the present head of the executive committee Uladzimir Rushaila ends in June. The Kremlin was preparing Veshnyakov to take this position. According to a source of the Russian delegation at the summit, only Lukashenka was against the former head of the Central Election Commission. The information about it appeared only a day before the summit started.

Veshnyakov did not express himself in the Russian-Belarusian relations, so the reasons why A.Lukashenka did not endorse him are not clear. “I doubt he even said he was “pro” or “contra”, - says the head of the Foreign Affaires Commission of the Belarusian Parliament Mikalai Charhinets. – I’ll tell you the truth – there is no particular reaction to it here.

According to Mr. Charhinets, the candidature of the successor of Uladzimir Rushaila will be discussed during the October summit in Dushanbe.
