US envoy John Coale hints at new release of Belarusian political prisoners

U.S. President’s special envoy to Belarus, John Coale, responded to the sister of political prisoner Illia Verameeu, Yana Kavaliova, on X. She asked: “Dear Mr. Coale, can we hope for the release of political prisoners in the near future?”

Coale responded tersely: “Yes.”

Coale last visited Belarus on March 19. At the time, as a result of negotiations, 250 people were released from Belarusian prisons, and 15 of them were taken to Lithuania.

In return, the U.S. lifted sanctions on Belinvestbank, the Development Bank, and the Ministry of Finance.
