Lukashenka changes status of border troops

The Border Troops of Belarus have been changed into the State Border Committee, in accordance with a decree signed by Alexander Lukashenka.
The president's press office said the move was caused by the changes in the sitution in the world and around our country, reports Interfax..

In the early years of independence, the border troops were tasked to ensure the independence and the territorial integrity of this country. Presently, the priority is to carry out some law-enforcement functions and to block the trans-border crime, the president's press office said.
