Lech Wałęsa nominates Stanislau Shushkebich for Nobel Peace Prize

A former Polish President, the leader of “Solidarity” Lech Wałęsa has nominated Stanislau Shushkevich for the Nobel Peace Prize. The ex-head of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus does not think his chances are good, reports the “Nasha Niva” newspaper.

According to Shushkevich, he will help independent Belarusian editions if he manages to get the prize.

The former head of Belarus has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in five categories: 1. Initiative and realization of removal of nuclear weapons from Belarus; 2. Initiative of the meeting of leaders of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine who sighed the Belavezha Accords in December 1991 and confirmed the collapse of the Soviet Union; 3. Active contribution to the peaceful collapse of the USSR; 4. Contribution to peaceful rearrangement of the USSR into independent republics; 5. Devotion to the principles of peace, democracy, human rights and propaganda of these principles.

The laureate will be announced in the second half of October. Let us remind you that the leader of an unregistered human rights defending organization “Vyasna” Ales Belyatski was nominated for the peace prize last year.
