Lazavik accuses ‘some observers’ of conflicts at polling stations

Лазавік абвінаваціў "асобных назіральнікаў" у канфліктах на участках

Some Belarusian presidential election observers are trying to provoke conflicts at polling stations, CEC spokesman Mikalai Lazavik announced.

There have been conflicts between observers and election committee members in Minsk and in the provinces, the official said.

"It is no secret that some political organizations have set a goal to prove that the Belarusian election is undemocratic, that there is no freedom and no elections at all. Naturally, observes from these organizations are not fulfilling their functions– helping reveal drawback and correcting them. On the contrary, they are looking for drawbacks even if there aren’t any and are trying to provoke conflicts, When such observers are asked to leave, they say that they have reached their goal – provoked a conflict and made it public,” BELTA quotes the CEC secretary.

Some observers were deprived of accreditation during the early voting, Lazavik said. The observers demanded things that went beyond the committee members’ powers and were refused, Lazavik said.

As a rule, foreign observers do not exceed their powers, the official noted.
