Latvians urge to boycott Maxima trade network

The reason for this is the tragedy in Riga where the roof collapsed and took the lives of 54 people. The owners of the trade network claim innocent. Yolanda Bivajnite, President of the Lithuanian holding company Vilniaus prekyba, which owns the Maxima group of companies, is convinced that the employees of the supermarket in Zolitūde acted with the best intentions.

According to Radio Liberty, Latvian politicians and the people famous in the society, including Foreign Minister Edgar Rinkevich, Minister of Economy Daniels Pavļuts, Minister of Wellbeing Ilze Vinkele, members of parliament, human rights defenders, journalists expressed their outrage with the actions of the Maxima bosses. Many of them announced they would not shop in the Maxima supermarkets and urged to boycott this trade network.

Edgar Rinkevich informed that he had connected with the Lithuanian MFA and passed them information about Maxima actions in Latvia, via the diplomatic channels.

Besides, the Vilnius shopping center Akropolis, which is extremely popular among the Belarusian customers, also belongs to Maxima trade network.
