Italian family accused of bad treatment of Belarusian girl

A scandal connected with an 11-year-old Belarusian girl who came to spend vacations in Italy has arisen. The police think that the girl whose name is not revealed suffered from harassment in the Italian family. “We put the situation under control from the very start”, - says the Belarusian Ambassador Alyaksei Skrypko. ERB found out that the little Belarusian had arrived for vacations in Italy together with a group of 11-year-olds at the beginning of August. Some sources claim she was entrusted to the care of a family in Savon, others claim the family lived in Milan.

They were spending vacations at the seaside in Pietro Ligure. The scandal described by Italian mass media started there.

The girl and the Italian family lived in one of hotels situated at the Ligurian coast. Neighbours started paying attention to the strange way she was treaded by the head of the family.

“Eho Moskvy” notes that the man “paid some unambiguous attention” to the girl. Attentive Italians immediately informed the police about it and they reacted without any delay.

The 40-year-old man is accused of sexual harassment. The police are carrying out an investigation, informed “RIA Novosti”.

The Belarusian Ambassador to Italy Alyaksei Skrypko informed BelaPAN that “the alarming information” about the girl was reported to the Belarusian Embassy last week.

According to him, one of Italian citizens sent a similar complaint to the police. “We put the situation under control from the very start”, - says the Ambassador. – We did everything to protect the rights and interests of the child”.

Skrypko says that the Belarusian Embassy “supervised the process of taking the child away from the family”.

The information about the place the girl is at is controversial. The Belarusian Ambassador says she is with the group of other Belarusian children and that they are accompanied by someone.

“We talked to the girl. She says that nothing bad happened”, - noted Skrypko.

RIA “Novosti” refers to the lawyer of the Belarusian Embassy to Rome Diego Perugini and reports that the Belarusian is at the children’s centre in Milan now. However, psychologists are working with her.

The issue of returning the girl back to Belarus is not being discussed now, says the lawyer. The ambassador Alyaksei Skrypko says that the girl will return home together with the rest of the group on August 29.
