Interior ministry thwarts plot against Grodna governor and deputy minister

The plot that aimed at a physical liquidation of Grodna Region Governor Uladzimir Sachanka and deputy minister for taxes and revenues Vasil Kamianko has been discovered by the organized crime task force department. The plot was allegedly thwarted at the stage of preparations. The case is under the control of the Interior Minister, Office of the Prosecutor General and the KGB, reports Ezhednevnik e-newspaper.  According to the Interior, the attempt on the life of Sauchanka and Kamiankou was planned for spring-autumn of 2005 with the use of explosives and a grenade launcher. The group of suspected killers consisted of former Afghanistan war veterans.

Investigators also believe that Mikalai Autukhovich, an entrepreneur from Vaukavysk, was part of that group. He has been behind bars since February 2009. He is charged with arson. A grenade launcher and explosives emerged in Autukhovich's case later. A new criminal case has been opened. Investigators questioned Autukhovich's friends, especially those who served in the army during the war in Afghanistan.

According to Ezhednevnik, Sauchanka and Kamianko are aware about the allegedly thwarted plot.
