Hypermarket to open in Maladzechna

The first hypermarket is soon to be launched in the town of Maladzechna, according to the proposal from the Belvillsden Company, which owns the Gippo hypermarket in the capital Minsk.

The businessmen and the Maladzechna authorities are currently in talks over the site of the future mall. The developer has been offered a plot at the town’s outskirts near the highway going to Minsk. The local authorities say that is where the town is planned to expand to. The attitude of the public towards the project varies from being indifferent to positive. For instance, retiree Pavel Karaljou does not object to having a hypermarket in his town, but he says he is unlikely to ever reach there because of the distance. “I do not shop much. All I need, I can buy from a nearby supermarket downtown”, the man said. But, Aleh and Ala Korbut would enjoy shopping from a new hypermarket, especially if it would offer a greater variety of stock and lower price tags. In the view of Mikalai, a local entrepreneur, such a giant competitor could ruin part of the local small-size retailers and deprive the individual entrepreneurs from further development. Albert Dabranski, the chief of the local revenue authority, is yet unaware of how the new economic entity is to be registered. If the hypermarket is established as a daughter unit of the Minsk-based owner, the local budget would receive only the land and environment duties. In case, the business is registered as a separate company with its own bank account, it could become a great source of income for the town’s budget. In the view of Dabranski, even the bankruptcy of some small-size retailers would not look like a big loss to the town.
