Hryb: Nothing good comes out of this!

Euroradio reminds that the Belarusian president has signed an edict entitling the State Control Committee (SCC) to protect national security of Belarus.

Commenting to Euroradio, the former speaker of Belarusian parliament and police general Mechyslau Hryb noted that the functions of Belarusian law-enforcement agencies were often doubled. For instance, inquiry is carried out by several agencies. Besides, they spy on each other in order to report to superiors and boost their image.

Hryb: "The control by the state, people's control during the Soviet rule, was never in charge of national security protection. Since there are two agencies now responsible for national security, they will be in competition: who is better or more powerful... I reckon nothing good will come out of this."

The former parliament speaker and the police general says he can't imagine why the State Control Committe would need to deal with national security.
