Free trade union can be closed down due demands of workers

Valiantsin Lazarenkau, the chairman of the free trade union at the Brest University, received a strange letter from the district administration (see photo), demanding to submit documents on eight poisition within two weeks. He motivated the letter by an alleged statement by professors and university staff. Lazarenkau told Euroradio that he was not aware of any statements and believed it was a fresh attack on the free trade unions.

He also said that in August people were recalled from leaves and forced to leave the union by threatening not to extend contracts and other measures.

Lazarenkau also found out that the regional authorities do not know about a program on cooperation with independent trade unions passed by the government in order to meet the recommendations from the International Labor Organization.

Aliaksandr Yarashyk, the leader of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Unions, is expected to arrive in Brest.
