France seeks Belarus approval to rebury remains of Napoleon's troops

The French Embassy in Minsk seeks permission from the Belarusian authorities to rebury the remains of Napoleon's soldiers killed during the 1812 war with Russia.  Last year, history activists found the remains of 224 French soldiers in the Vilejka district. The French diplomats want to rebury the remains in the Barysaw district near the site where the defeated French troops were crossing River Berezina.

The site locates one grave of French soldiers which is taken care of. However, the Brylevskoye Field is protected by the state as a historical site. So, any digging works need to approved by the Ministry of Culture, the Minsk Regional Executive Committee as well as local authorities in Vilejka and Barysaw, writes E-Barysaw.
