European commissioner: Belarusian authorities should conduct more political reforms

Belarus has to conduct more political reforms so that the European Union would agree to closer relations. The Commissioner responsible for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy Benita Ferrero-Waldner has claimed it.
She stressed that Belarus had “a chance of getting closer to the European Union”, in particular, to joining the EU programme “Eastern partnership”. Benita Ferrero-Waldner described the current situation in Belarus as “two steps forward and one step back”.

The European commissioner noted that new political prisoners had appeared in Belarusian prisoners instead of the old ones. “We would like to see more systematic changes”, - BelaPAN quotes Ms. Benita Ferrero-Waldner.

Let us remind you that the European commissioner will pay an official visit to Belarus on March 12-13.
