In Sochi, ‘Double standards’ to blame for Shkanava's non-eligibility?

Alpine skier Maria Shkanova was barred from competing in the super combination in Sochi on February 10. Our sportswoman has 93 FIS points while the limit is 80.

Executive director of the Belarusian Federation Ihar Zvernik explained it by a double standard.

Zvernik: "She was allowed to take part in the competition on the official FIS website. However, they introduced additional requirements for the super combination a few days before the Olympics – she had to have 80 points. This information appeared when nothing could be done.”

Shkanava will take part in the other Olympic competitions, Zvernik said. By the way, she took the third position in the super combination at the Universiade earlier this season.
