Documents for registration of Union of left-wing parties sent to Ministry of Justice

Documents necessary for the registration of the association “The Union of left-wing parties” have been sent to the Ministry of Justice. The secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Communist Party Alena Skryhan thinks that the Ministry of Justice will not find any legal points to refuse the registration. At the same time, Ms. Skryhan thinks that the Union will not be able to work peacefully. In particular, the secretary of the Central Committee of the Belarusian Communist Party says that the authorities will press down on the parties of the Union.

Let us remind you that the first meeting of the Union took place in Chernigov (Ukraine) on December 17, 2006 because the organizers had encountered problems with renting a hall in Belarus. The Ministry of Justice refused the registration of the organization on December 17, 2007 referring to the legislation according to which political parties could not organize and conduct any activities abroad.

Representatives of the Union of left-wing parties tried to appeal this decision but the Supreme Court declined their appeal to the Ministry of Justice.

The second meeting of the Union took place in Minsk on July 13. Representatives of the Belarusian Communist party, Belarusian women’s party “Nadzeya”, Belarusian Social-Democratic Party (Hramada) and the liquidated Belarusian labour Party attended it.

The statute of the Union of left-wing parties was adopted and the administrative board – the Central Councils was elected. Syarheyi Kalyakin, Alena Yaskova, Anatol Lyaukovich and Alyaksandr Buhvostau became its co-leaders. The leader of the BCP S.Kalyakin became head of the Executive Committee of the Central Council.
