Death toll of floods in Europe reaches 9 (video)

On Monday, the German rescuers found the body of the 46-year-old builder in the river Erms, Tübingen district (the state of Baden-Württemberg in the south of the country). He fell into the river Elzach in the city of Bad Urach (this is 13 kilometers away from the place his body was found). 
 


The reason for the severe floods in Germany, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria and a number of areas in Poland is heave rains that haven't stopped since the middle of last week. The flood peak is expected in Prague on Tuesday.

The metro and the Charles Bridge have been closed. About 3 thousand people had to leave their homes. The zoo workers evacuated the animals to safety.
 

In Austria , the federal land Salzburg has been announced a zone of emergency. In Germany, thousands of houses have been left without electricity. The state of emergency has been declared in the cities of Passau and Rosenheim.


"The situation is extremely dramatic," Herbert Zillinger, a spokesman for Passau's crisis centre, has said.


Many cities in the states of Saxony, Thuringia and Baden-Württemberg have also been flooded. 7 thousand people have been evacuated from Leipzig area and delivered to the special emergency shelters.


German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit the suffered regions on Tuesday. The EU claims its readiness to help the three suffering countries.


The specialists confirm that the water in Danube river is also rising, urge the countries around this river to take the necessary measures.


Military men in Slovakia and Hungary are building pecial fences in the places where Danube is likely to break its banks, ВВС informs.
