Children from Belarusian villages go to schools on foot after benefits cancellation

The cancellation of benefits in Belarus affected pupils going to schools in neighbouring villages. They used to get free tickets for regular buses to go to school.
After the benefits cancellation parents were told that children would be able to use “long-distance transport from September 1 till June 30” for free.

However, announcement informing that parents will have to buy their children tickets for local buses have appeared at bus stations. Boys and girls used to have free tickets for those buses and long-distance buses were used very rarely.

There are no long-distance buses in some districts, for example, in Kamyanetski District of Brest Region. Local children cannot get free tickets there. Meanwhile, more and more pupils have started going to schools on foot, reports “Vecherni Brest”.
