Chernobyl march organizers reject government-proposed route

The organizers have rejected the city government-proposed route for a march marking the 23rd anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear accident scheduled for April 26, Viktar Ivashkevich, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF), announced on Wednesday.
The city government suggested that demonstrators gather in front of the National Academy of Sciences, walk in a procession past the Kastrychnik movie theater and along Khmyalnitskaha Street, Kuybyshava Street and Surhanava Street to hold a rally next to a church near Bangalore Square.

The organizers asked for permission to stage the march along Independence Avenue (Minsk’s main thoroughfare) and then streets leading to the church near Bangalore Street.
