Belarusians try to protect monument to insurgents in Vilnius
Belarusian youth organizations have asked the Lithuanian Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Vilnius to comment on the possibility of demolition of the monument to insurgents of 1863 in Lukiškės Square. The appeal has been signed by a youth initiative “StudAlliance” and “Malady Front”.
The young Belarusians have stressed that the January Uprising of 1863 was an important event in the history of Belarus, Poland and Lithuania. Kastus Kalinouski and other insurgents fought for the independence of all peoples. That is why many people are worried about the possible demolition of the cross and the memorial plate installed in honour of those who sacrificed their lives “for our and your freedom”.
