Belarusian opposition may choose a single candidate in April 2015

The steering committee for creating the party Belarusian Christian Democracy came up with such suggestion this year. It is actively discussed among the opposition forces now.

Co-Chairman of the steering committee Vital Rymasheuski has told Euroradio the following:

"The All-Belarusian Congress is an idea that combines primaries, suggested by one part of the opposition, and the congress itself. This means, we suggest to conduct broad primaries, internet voting, and give an opportunity for the Belarusian citizens to speak up. We also plan to organize rating voting so that the people could express whom they will support among the suggested leaders for the presidential campaign."

Those politicians who get the most support will compete for a single candidate for the presidential election. The strategy is also planned to be adopted at the congress.

According to Rymasheuski, there are no precise agreements about the congress and its agenda so far, but they may be reached soon. No one has any objections to nomination of a single candidate, Vital Rymasheuski says.
