Belarusian officials critical of Nord Stream project

The Belarusian leader and other officials criticized the Nord Stream project, a planned offshore pipeline from Russia to Germany, Interfax quoted visiting Estonian foreign minister as saying.   Urmas Paet made the statement after his meetings with Alyaksandr Lukashenka and Foreign Minister Syarhey Martynaw of Belarus. He noted that Estonia is also critical of the project. "Environmental risks are too big is the pipeline is build offshore," he noted.

Russia seeks to build the natural gas pipeline to reduce its dependence on Belarus and other countries for transit.
