Belarusian head phoniatrist: Mihalok sings as good as Yalfimau

A participant of “Slavonic Bazaar” Hanna Balahava has problems with her voice because she got tired after her daily concerts for country people. She went on that tour with Iryna Darafeeva who notes she has no problems with her voice now. But even for her a visit to the phoniatrist is like personal hygiene. Sometimes our stars lose voice even right before concerts. The head phoniatrist of Belarus Zhanna Ramanava is proud of being able to help singers. Phoniatrists always wait behind the scene of the National opera Theatre with their instruments just in case.

They can even change a singer if it is necessary. Moreover, Zhanna Ramanava says that you cannot be accepted to a musical college or conservatory without a phoniatrist’s note. The phoniatrist did not mention those who turned to her to return their voice but ERB managed to find out what “stars” she liked best:

Ramanava: Yalfіmau, Іryna Darafeeva, Dzіma Kaldun, Georgіi Kaldun, Zhanet. Alyaksey Hlyastou, Patlіs and vocalists of such bands as “Spasenie” and “Lyapis Trubetskoi” have very good voices.

By the way, Mihalok is on the list of singers who have a very good voice together with Yalfimau in spite of the fact that rock musicians lose voices rather often. It happened to the vocalist of “J_Mors” Uladzimir Puhach though it didn’t result in a cancellation of his concert. He had to take the “Falimint” medicine. A similar thing happened to the vocalist of TT34:

TT34: You just give a concert and then you cannot talk at all, you are using pantomime. Then comes the turn of strong alcoholic beverages which activates all you hidden energy and it’s ok. We shout like crazy so there is no difference whether you lost your voice or not. Who are phoniatrists? It’s the first time I’ve heard the word.

On the contrary, a rock musician Alyaksandr Kulinkovich complains about the bad influence of alcohol and recalls an incident that happened to “Neuro Dubel” in 1993.

Kulіnkovіch: You are always thirsty on the stage and I didn’t take anything with me. I waved to the guys from the band “Zapadlo” and asked for something to drink. They gave me a bottle of mineral water, I made a sip and understood it was alcohol. I do not have a very good voice but at that time I lost everything I had.

Show business stars of different times say they did not have any problems with their voices. Maybe they just do not want to tell the truth. One of the legendary members of the “Pesnyary” Leanid Bartkevich says that if you sing without straining your vocal cords too much, you will never have problems with your voice. Natallya Padolskaya says she lost her voice only once - when she was 15.

Padolskaya: there is no need in any special care of you voice. My sight of the Zodiac is Taurus and I know I should always keep my throat warm. I try to stick to the rule and not to catch cold.

The most scandalous case happened to Alyaksandra from the duet “Alyaksandra and Kanstantsin” a few days before the start of “Eurovision”.

Alyaksandra: I had to sing a lot at a party that was organized for the presentation of our country. My voice got tired and I had to go to hospital the following day. Members of the delegation had an opportunity to see the work of my vocal cords on a screen. It was unpleasant that mass media presented the incident as a tragedy for me and for the whole country while such problems are rather common for all singers.

Besides vocalists voice problems can be found in people working in other fields. There is even a special list of professions that risk having voice problems drawn up by the Ministry of Healthcare: teachers, artists, directors of enterprises…

ERB phoned Svyatlana Zelyankouskaya. The actress has recently lost her voice. It happened during the shooting of a Pyotr Todorovskiy film.

Zelyankouskaya: There was a lot of pyrotechnics. I had a rehearsal in the morning and a performance in the theatre in the evening.

The same thing happened at the match Belarus-Bulgaria a week ago. Yury Puntus, the coach of Belarus national team tried to shout so that his players could hear him and could not talk at all the following day.

A politician Pavel Sevyarynets recalls events that happened 7 years ago:

Sevyarynets: It was on St.Valentine’s Day. They had not brought the necessary equipment and I had to use my voice to shout for the crowd of 2 thousand people. I lost my voice the following day but it seemed everyone heard me.

To recover your voice as soon as possible you should refrain from talking, says the head phoniatrist Zhanna Ramanava. You should not talk on the phone either, as you cannot use gestures to help you. You should put a scarf around your neck and drink tea with honey and lemon.
