Belarus spy Sergei Monich convicted in Poland

A court in Poland has sentenced Belarus national Sergei Monich to five and a half years in prison for espionage.
The trial was held behind the closed doors. Monich, 43 was found guilty of passing "the information that compromised Poland's national security interests to foreign intelligence services", reports Belapan news agency, quoting AFP.

Sergei Monich was arrested in Lithuania in 2006 during a joint operation of the Polish and Lithuanian counter-intelligence.

The Polish prosecutors said Monich had recruited a certain Polish citizen who was allegedly passing information about the staff of the Polish foreign ministry during secret meetings in Vilnius and Minsk.
