Belarus included in UN Statistical Commission for the first time

Belarus has been included in the UN Statistical Commission for the period of 2008-2010 and in the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women for 2007-2009.
Our country was unanimously elected at the session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council that took place in New York on April 25. Andrei Papou, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affaires, noted that Belarus has been elected member of this commission for the first time although it often participated in its work as an observer.

The main purpose of the commission is helping to develop stability, compatibility of national statistical data and improving the statistical methodology in general. The commission also coordinates the work of the UN Secretariat and agencies and deals with the issue of collecting, preserving and distributing statistical data, informs BelTA.
