Belarus explains increase in apples supplies to Russia

The supplies of Belarusian apples to Russia can be explained by favourable economic factors, director for the state inspectorate for plant protection Leanid Plyashko told BELTA.

According to the expert, there was a good harvest of apples in Belarus last year. Many young orchards started yielding. It is also more profitable to sell apples in spring and the supplies have increased now, The stabilization of the Russian rouble has also helped, Plyashko said.

The Belarusian specialist has commented on the statements made by the Russian Agricultural Inspectorate recently. The inspectorate has noticed a rapid increase in apples supplies from Belarus to Russia. Russian experts are also worried about Belarus re-exporting goods from the countries affected by the Russian food embargo.

Belarus is taking exceptional measures to prevent the re-export of banned goods to the Russian territory, Plyashko noted. For example, experts did not allow transporting about 29 tons of products to Russia in 2014.
