Belarus to ask more for gas transit

The “Beltransgaz” and “Gazprom” companies have signed an additional agreement about the increase of the payment for the transit of Russian gas through Belarus. The vice Prime Minister Uladzimir Syamashka informed about it at a press conference on August 1. The agreement was signed last week. The agreement was initiated by Belarus in connection with the increase of the price for gas from 119 to 128 dollars for 1 thousand cubic metres in the second quarter of 2008, explained the vice Prime Minister. According to U.Syamashka, “Gazprom” has already paid for gas transfer in the first six months of the year. Belarus has received 105 million dollars. The money was used by “Beltransgaz” to pay for gas: the price was 119 instead of 128 dollars for a thousand cubic metres. It is indicated in the agreement signed by “Gazprom” and “Beltransgaz” on December 31, 2006. Moreover, U.Syamashka informed that the price for gas imported in Belarus would not exceed 128 dollars for one thousand cubic metres till the end of 2008.
