Authorities set to close down free trade union at Brest university

The administration of Brest's Leninski District has proposed to close down a Free Trade Union cell at the Brest State University.
The letter, signed by Mikhail Eutukh who heads the district administration, says that there are less than three members in the cell.

According to free trade union leaderValiantsin Lazarenkau, his union has been under constant pressure from the chancellor's office over the past four years. People are summoned to the university administration and told to leave the free trade union.

Meanwhile, Alexander Yarashuk who chairs the Belarusian Confederation of Trade Unions, has already informed the International Labor Organization and the International Trade Union Confederation about the situation at the university.

“On the one hand, the government declares its interest in developing a dialogue with the International Labor Organization, aiming at the restoration of the trade preferences. On the other hand, it targets independent free trade unions, aiming at their liquidation", Yarashuk said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus.

His organization on October 7 will stage a picket in support of the free trade union at the Brest State University.
