Alyaksandr Rar: Many European politicians are grateful to Lukashenka

The Belarusian authorities are trying to find out who can render more assistance at the moment – Russia or the European Union. The strategy of the official Minsk depends on it. A famous political scientist and a member of the Foreign policy council of Germany Alyaksandr Rar has expressed the opinion in an interview with “Nardonaya Hazeta”. "The whole Europe would like to cooperate with Belarus”, - thinks Rar. He is sure that Alyaksandr Lukashenka will be invited to the European summit in Prague in June.

The political scientist also thinks that the sanctions lifted by the European Union will be resumed and does not exclude the fact that Europe may demand new concessions from Minsk. At the same time, Rar notes that “many European politicians are grateful to Alyaksandr Lukashenka because Belarus did not try to act like a transit monopolist in the days when part of Europe was freezing because of the lack of Russian gas (unlike Ukraine).

Additional fuel was pumped to Europe via Belarus during the Russian-Ukrainian gas crisis. “Europe accepted the fact in a very positive way and it made Belarus and Europe closer while Ukraine got estranged from the EU”.

According to the German politician, the Belarusian elite and the Belarusian people should dispose themselves to the fact that “the way to the future is connected with the Europeanization of Belarus”.
