Alesin: The most required contractors are pilots and tankmen

Let us remind you, there was information in the media that Belarusian military men were fighting in Lybia. Belarusian MFA and the Ministry of Defense officially refuted this information. However, in Alesin's opinion, Belarusians' presence in Lybia is not a surprise.

Alesin: “When the events in Lybia had just started, the Western media informed with a reference to diplomatic sources that military men who served in the former Warsaw agreement countries, in the former USSR etc. were fighting on Gaddafi's side. They named Russians, Belarusians, Serbians, Romanians - all those who knew how to use ex-soviet weapons.Contractors participated in all the conflicts in Africa - these military men are called "soldiers of luck", they quit their countries' armies due to some reasons and are in search of big money. Taking into consideration the downsize of the military forces in the post-Soviet territory, there are many such people. The most required contractors are pilots, tankmen, special departments professionals".

Belarusian military forces were donwsized many times, according to Alesin. Military men quit due to low salaries. The expert compares Belarusian situation with Ukrainian one. It is known that Ukraine sold weapons to Lybia. A Ukrainian expert Colonel Berazhnoy has noted that weapons are never shipped alone, specialists on their exploitation accompany them. Those who sign individual employment contracts join.

This means, we are speaking about laid-off military men mostly. No state is willing to send its soldiers in hot spots like this officially, even if it has its own interests in the conflict. Alesin notes that this is not the first time when Belarusians are involved in African conflicts.
