Activists manage to abolish downpayments for street actions

Human rights defenders in Baranavichy have managed to abolish downpayments for street actions to the police, rescuers and doctors.
The resolution about the downpayments was issued by the local city hall several years ago. The city court upheld the resolution.

However, the Brest Regional Court, where activists Siarhei Housha and Karnei Piatrovich appealed to, revised the decision. There is information the court had consultations with the government officials.

The Baranavichy City Hall sent a letter to the local court that money for pickets should not be taken any longer.

Previously, activists would be required to pay Br6 million ($2000) as a downpayment even for a small picket.
