600-year-old church robbed in Hrodna region

The famous Synkovichy Church has been robbed in the Zelva district, Hrodna region. Unidentified perpetrators broke into the church through windows which are 4-meter high and rather narrow for an ordinary adult. Around Br1 million in donations and two rings left by believers in front of the God's Mother icon were stolen, reports BulletinOnline.org.

The Synklovichy Church is believed to be built by Vitaut the Great as a fortress. It has a network of underground passages which have survived up to now but has not been explored properly.

The church marked the 600th anniversary last year.
