100 Belarusians die annually due to drug overdoze

Over 10,000 drug addicts are officially registered in Belarus, including 1500 teenagers younger than 16 years old. The figure also includes around 1500 female drug abusers. According to the estimates of Uladzimir Maksimchuk, the country's chief narcologist at the Ministry of Health, doctors reported cases when children aged less than 10 years old took drugs and psychotropic substances. The statistics show that an average drug addict is below 30 years has a secondary education, jobless and without a family.

Experts maintain that 10,000 patients registered with the Ministry of Health is only the top of an iceberg. The actual figures are many times higher, reports Komsomolskaya pravda v Belorussii.
