Zmitser Dashkevich stands trial in Shklou colony today

A hearing of a new criminal case against one of the leaders of the youth opposition movement Zmitser Dashkevich will start in Shklou colony #17 today.
Let us remind you that Dashkevish is serving his sentence for acting on behalf of an unregistered organization “Malady Front”. The decision was pronounced on November 1, 2006. He was sentenced to 1.5 years of imprisonment.

It was a closed trial. A new case was started against the 26-year-old opposition member on August 14. He was accused of prejudicial evidence evasion as a victim or a witness which leads to three years of imprisonment.

Dashkevich refused to give evidence in the case of Ivan Shyla accused of acting of behalf of an unregistered organization “Malady Front”. Shyla was returned guilty on September 4.

His punishment was an official warning. According to his former lawyer Ihar Rynkevich, the new accusation contradicts the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the Criminal code guaranteeing the right of witnesses not to testify against themselves.

Іhar Rynkevіch: “If Zmitser gave evidence against Ivan Shyla who is accused of the same thing according to the same article taking into account that Shyla acted on behalf of the organization led by Dashkevich it would harm him. He had the right not to give evidence”.
